Eric Nelsen has made his mark in the media through his work on such shows as The Young and the Restless, Gossip Girl, and Yellowstone. He’s also a published author, having written several books, including The Will Rogers Story and The Yellowstone Podcast: 1883. His latest book is a memoir of his childhood in Montana, a book that is just as interesting and compelling as his popular television show.
Early life
In the early days of Eric Nielsen’s career, he played on the baseball field. He was a three-year starter for the Rebels. He also holds the school record for hits by pitch in a season.
After college, he turned professional. He played in the Blue Jays minor league system for five years. He then became an officer with the Henderson Police Department and later an assistant coach with the Rebels.
Eventually, he opened his own law firm in Whitehorse, Yukon. His wife Roxanne was the first female to join the RCMP in the Yukon. Afterwards, they had three children.
During his time in the House of Commons, he was elected as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. He also served as the Opposition House Leader from 1981 to 1983.
His work in the House of Commons has been extensive. He is now a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Texas Civil Rights Project, and the Harris County Democratic Lawyers Association.
Eric has also become an in-demand recording engineer. He uses the latest digital creative tools to produce soundscapes for books and live performances.
When he was in the Senate, he pushed for a more prominent role for the Yukon in Canada. The government had been neglecting the territory. Consequently, he urged the government to give the Yukon and Northwest Territories a seat in the Senate.
Among his achievements in politics, he was able to propose the first federal proposal to grant the Yukon and Northwest Territories senate seats. Ultimately, the Liberal government agreed with the findings.
Nielsen’s political success was due to his reputation for being secretive. He was known for refusing to answer questions about political scandals.
Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl is a teen drama which revolves around the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Its cast includes Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald, Vanessa Abrams, Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey.

The Will Rogers Story
The Will Rogers story is more than a collection of oldies but goodies, it’s a testament to one man’s ability to harness the power of persuasion and apply it to the task of creating one of the most important institutions in modern America. Fred McFeely Rogers, aka Mister Rogers, was the epitome of a self-proclaimed ‘normal’ guy who possessed an exceptional ability to put others at ease. This ability was cultivated at a young age and he was able to show others what they could be if they just embraced their individuality.
Although Fred Rogers’s “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” was not a television masterpiece in the traditional sense, it did have the honors of being the most watched PBS show in history. It was also the most popular kids show of its day, and spawned a number of spinoffs, including a book and a magazine. In addition to the television show, a museum and hospital were founded to serve the needs of children with tuberculosis, the former of which was renamed the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital in 1936.
As for a name, it’s a mouthful. A more practical moniker would have been the Will Rogers Foundation. For a while, the foundation acted as a philanthropic force, providing assistance to those in the motion picture industry. However, when a change in leadership at the foundation led to a split of the organization, a new era was born. One of its most notable changes was the creation of the Film Row LEAD, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to make the motion picture industry more equitable by helping underrepresented minorities secure jobs and learn about the industry they are aspiring to be a part of.
The Yellowstone Podcast: 1883
1883 is a prequel to the wildly popular series Yellowstone. This neo-western follows a Dutton family as they migrate through the harsh terrain of the Mountain West in the early 20th century. During this period, pandemics, Indian reservations, and the end of Prohibition plague the land.
The premiere of “1883” broke many viewership records. It was the Paramount Network’s biggest new series debut since 2015. With an average of 4.9 million viewers, it also surpassed the record for most watched original series debut for Paramount+.
While the show has only aired two episodes to date, its first two weeks generated a record-setting 6.4 million total viewers. That’s impressive for a show that only launched three years ago in the Nielsen D markets.
Likewise, the “Yellowstone” season finale ranked as the most watched show of the season across all platforms. Not only did it draw 10.3 million viewers, but it was also the most mentioned show on social media. Social media mentions for the finale were up 115 percent over the season’s third finale.
Another noteworthy event was the debut of the 1883 featurettes. These will be available on home video formats as well as on the Paramount+ streaming service. They will include over two hours of bonus features.
Among other things, the “Yellowstone” prequel has set a new Paramount+ record as the most watched original series debut. And if the numbers are anything to go by, there will be more to come.
In addition to the obvious, the “Yellowstone” season’s second season will also focus on a real-life lawman. His name is Bass Reeves, and he’ll be played by David Oyelowo.
Family
Eric Hersholt Nielsen was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and former deputy prime minister. He was also the elder brother of actor Leslie Nielsen. Among his accomplishments were serving as a member of parliament for the Yukon and as President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada. His death occurred on February 13, 2019, at the age of 84.
Nielsen was a member of the House of Commons for 30 years. In 1979, the Tories formed a minority government, and he served as the opposition leader. By 1984, Brian Mulroney had taken over as the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. It was then that he made Nielsen his deputy prime minister and president of the Queen’s Privy Council.
After his time in the House of Commons, he was known for his secretive style of cabinet ministry. His reputation for stonewalling questions was an issue that hurt his government’s image.
When he was in the Senate, he advocated for more of a prominent role for the Yukon. His efforts were largely successful. The federal Liberals agreed with him.
In 1989, he wrote an autobiography. The book was a chronicle of his life both inside and outside of politics. A few years later, he and his wife Roxanne opened a law practice in Whitehorse, Yukon. They enjoy canoeing, camping, and long walks in the woods.
